Malaika Exploration
Limited
Exploration in North East Zambia
Summary
Malaika owns two large-scale exploration licences covering 1,284km² in north east Zambia. Licences include prospectively viable quantities of high-grade graphite, coltan (containing niobium & tantalum), lithium, and rare earth elements (REEs).
Main Strategic Minerals identified through exploration and/or historical mining within combined licence areas includes:
- Niobium
- Tantalum
- Beryllium (Beryl)
- Rare Earth Elements
- Lithium
- Rubidium
- Caesium
- Graphite
The licence area includes the well know Njoka graphite deposit with exploration history dating back to 1933. All other strategic minerals hosted within associated rare-element bearing complex-type pegmatites.
Project is located within Mesoproterozoic Lundazi Gneiss Group consisting of gneisses and gneissic migmatites. Gneisses and migmatites intruded by numerous pegmatites, known as the Lundazi pegmatite belt (“LPB”). LPB contains Lithium, Caesium, Tantalum (“LCT pegmatites”) as well Niobium Yttrium Fluorine (“NYF pegmatites”) pegmatites. LPB is a large source of Beryllium (Beryl) with historical mines located on licence areas.

Project Potential
- Projects include an exceptional combination of Strategic Minerals as defined by the US “final list of critical minerals 2018” including niobium, tantalum, lithium, beryllium (beryl), caesium, rare earth elements and graphite.
- Large land package (well over 1200km2) and significant scope for expansion of the project
- Underexplored projects in a highly prospective part of Zambia
- Coltan, REEs, Lithium and graphite explored and mined in neighbouring Malawi and Mozambique
- Project defined by historical mining and exploration plus current ongoing artisanal mining for predominantly Coltan within the licence area
- Minerals present, including Coltan and Graphite are located at or close to surface making exploration and sampling easier and potential future mining operations more cost effective
- Prices and demand for Niobium, Tantalum.
GEM Resources planned work programme is designed to de-risk and focus our efforts on-the-ground. We expect to deliver significant results, generating news-flow.
